Jeans! The item of clothing that represents our most casual self but fills most of us with pure dread when trying to choose!
Wearing your favourite jeans is a statement of “I’m not trying too hard!” but purchasing them is another matter
Why don’t jeans fit?
Jean shopping can feel traumatic, and overwhelming and causes the biggest changing room meltdowns out there. The reason for this is that sizing is inconsistent, and we have preconceived ideas about what should and shouldn’t suit us.
Why is sizing inconsistent?
Manufacturing: Quality control requirements and variations in cutting and stitching can lead to differences in sizing
Brand variations: Different brands often have their own sizing and fit philosophies. What one brand consider a size 30 may be different to another brands interpretation
Fabric stretch: Denim fabric varies in its stretchability. The elastane content is what needs to be considered
Country of Origin: European sizing differs from USA sizing. For example, generally an Italian fit will be on the small size.

Jeans Trauma:
Are you hanging on to memories of hot and bothered changing room experiences? Or perhaps you are still living in hope that the jeans you looked amazing in 15 years ago will work again?
Forget it!
Understanding your body shape is key to your success. And working with me I will teach you how to measure specifically for jeans
Secondly, you need to know what the purpose of your jeans will be and how they fit in with your lifestyle? Are you looking for a pair that you will wear casually with trainers or a pair that you will dress up with heels?
Knowing these 2 things will help eliminate the sweaty panic that you feel when you stand amongst a sea of denim.
Before you head to the shops to find your perfect pair of jeans, I have a few tips for you.
- DON’T buy them when they feel like the perfect fit, buy them half a size too small. They will stretch within an hour of wearing them and you will lose the shape of your figure
- Always opt for high-waisted. Any lower is uncomfortable and less flattering.
- Bamboozled by all the different styles. Personally, I think wide legged jeans are great on everyone! Start there!
- You get what you pay for! If you can invest a little more in your jeans. Fast fashion has ensured we are spoiled for choice with cheap options. The quality will look, feel and be so much better and they will last so much longer. One of my favourite denim brands is Paige. Honestly, once you try a pair on, it is like heaven. But its an investment
- If you are a confident/well-seasoned shopper, go mad in vintage and pre-loved shops for some classic jeans your size, it’s more sustainable and cheaper too!
