Transition from Summer to Autumn:7 items to look out for now

The transition of the seasons is emotional – the memories of a fabulous summer, BBQs, parties and flip flops on the beach. I find it quite sad – mainly because I am a summer girl through and through. I adore wearing a dress with sandals and little else.

It takes time for me to get my head into the beauty of Autumn – which of course, there is, in bucketloads! But MOSTLY, I struggle with that very inbetweeny phase of what to wear. Particularly if you have something to attend during that inbetween phase. There are some pieces that will help make it less confusing. And I know – you want to look “put together”. I hear this from my clients A LOT!

You will probably have many of these items in your wardrobe already so do NOT be rushing to the shops.

Shopping during the transitional phase is challenging and frustrating. More about that another time!

I have focused on a few capsule pieces with a lean into whats on trend. This will help with that overwhelm over transitioning from summer into winter.

Beware of trends and balance it with your eye on investment and sustainability.

Suede Jacket

Suede is BIG news for AW 2025 and you are going to see it everywhere. Investment in this now could be a good idea. It is something that will go with your summer dresses and the coldest-weather-winter-knits.

There is a stunning one here in BA&SH

Feminine detailing with the rounded collar and gathering around the back of the shoulders is just beautiful

Style it with blue denim and very casual look. I love browns and blues and it will also look CLASS over all-black or burgundy!

Your favourite dress

By now you will have several dresses in your wardrobe, that you will have been enjoying wearing over the summer. Some of them will serve you well into the autumn and cooler months. Try to look at them in a different way – are there other ways of wearing it, instead of totally bear with sandals.

This is something that you can throw on for a dinner date, feel instantly sexy and put-together, is something that everyone needs! An evening out with the girls or a glamourous day in a European city.

A dress in a beautiful fabric that skims your curves and is not overly revealing is a great transitional piece for now with sliders.

Pair with your jacket and a pair of biker boots for a slightly grungy, edgy look in the cold evenings

I love this one from Reiss

Knitted jumper

Or a cardigan is a feminine and so versatile option. This one from Mint Velvet

Not too chunky for now, but something fine and soft that will look good with your jeans, or a slip skirt will look great. This will equally take you into autumn with a floral mini skirt, thick tights and your biker boots

I also love it over the silky Reiss dress above. Such a great piece

Jeans

Almost ANYTHING goes with jeans. Nothing is out of bounds and it is very dependent on your body shape ( it’s a whole separate blog!!)

Once you know your shape, the comfort and fabric are key to taking you through the seasons. Im less likely to wear white or pale denim into winter, but that’s a personal preference. Darker denim tends to be dressier

Once you have selected your favourite pair, transition is all about the footwear. I love bootcut jeans on most shapes, and recommend this shape to many of my clients. My other personal favourites for the winter months are long wide-leg and they are definitely coming through on the runways. Barrel jeans are fast becoming my favourite shape for an edgy cool look

Skirts

So many long white skirts around this summer and they will look lovely with a chunky knit and boots into September/October

There will be lots of pencil skirts coming through for AW and styling these now in a transitional way will keep you looking relevant.

Anthropologie is showing some beautiful midi-length skirts and I love this one  with the hardware and slit for now with bare legs and vest top. Then style it with knitwear and a jacket later in the season

Base layers

A good investment now if a decent base layer. Don’t scrimp on them as they wont look great after a couple of times in the wash. A tee on its own now with your jeans and jacket is the easiest look in the world. But it will also be ideal for layering under your dresses and jumpers as the leaves fall off the trees.

I have been talking about this one  since last winter and it is still relevant for you Autumn wardrobe

Boots

One of THE most important purchases for your winter wardrobe will be boots!  I urge you to start looking now! It is exciting to start seeing what styles are coming through for the new season, as this will be key to keeping your wardrobe looking edgy.

I just came across this brand and I must say I think these boots are class!

I would style them with a wide leg crop jean or dresses now!
