Party Season
When choosing what to write this month, it was obvious! It’s December and it’s PARTY SEASON!
If you have been to the shops either in person or virtually you will know that there is a serious amount of sparkle available to us! Is there more than usual? I suspect so!
In fact, it can all be overwhelming. Are any of you feeling the pressure, like I am, to buy sequins??
Take a deep breath, and a little of my advice and you will shimmer and shine this Christmas season
Step Away from the black!
But here’s the twist: what if we dared to step away from our trusty black outfits and embraced a spectrum of colours instead? Let’s dive into how to shine this party season in vibrant hues!
First off, I’m sorry to tell you that most of us DO NOT suit wearing black up our faces. Unless you are a WINTER season, in which case it is striking. Most of us aren’t winters unfortunately. Black can make us look drained and tired. If you do decide to wear it, be sure to add your best bright lipstick and accessories according to your colour palette.
Now let’s talk about the power of colour. Wearing bright, bold shades not only lifts your mood but also adds a refreshing twist to your party wardrobe. Think jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, and ruby red. These colours are incredibly flattering and exude elegance without the heaviness of black. Pair a striking emerald dress with gold accessories for a sophisticated look that’s bound to turn heads!
Pastels in winter?
Now, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try pastel shades? Soft pinks, lilacs, and mint greens are perfect for a more whimsical vibe. A pastel midi dress can be paired with a fun pair of heels and a matching clutch for an effortlessly chic ensemble. Plus, these lighter colours are fantastic for daytime parties or brunch gatherings! This will work for you if you are a SUMMER palette and if you have a romantic style identity.
Don’t forget about the timeless charm of metallics! Silver, gold, and bronze can add that extra sparkle to your outfit. A stunning silver jumpsuit or a gold sequin top with tailored trousers can be show-stoppers. Just remember to keep your accessories minimal to let the outfit shine!
There are a lot of sequins in the shops this season – beware of fast fashion and cheap plastic sequins. Think about the wearability of anything that you buy. Personally, I have a few sequins pieces in my wardrobe which I wear at any time of the year. I love sequins trousers dressed down with a chunky knit. But, of course, it is the ultimate for the party season for a really glam look! Are you a warm or cool skin tone? This will help you decide whether to buy silver or gold sequins…..
For those who love prints, this season is your playground! Floral patterns, geometric designs, or animal prints can be just as festive as classic black. A bold printed dress can be paired with solid-color accessories to keep the focus on your fabulous outfit. And don’t shy away from mixing prints—just keep them in the same colour family for a cohesive look!
Finally, let’s talk about layering. A vibrant coat or a stylish shawl can elevate any outfit, providing warmth while making a statement. Choose a colour that contrasts with your ensemble for a trendy twist. A bright red coat over a soft pink dress? Yes, please!
